JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: DRIVER
Exempt (Y/N): No DEPARTMENT: TRANSIT DEPARTMENT
Date: April 2026 Reports to: Operations Manager
Salary is Non Exempt: $15.00 - $16.00 Per Hour
JOB SUMMARY: Drive trolley, mini-bus, tram, and/or other commercial vehicle in the Eureka Springs area.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Drive assigned vehicle on fixed route, Share-a-Ride (demand response) route, On-Demand or narrated tour tram.
2. Assist disabled passengers, including but not limited to lifts, seating and securing wheelchairs.
3. Maintain contact and communication with vehicles, main office, downtown station and shop.
4. Announce stops and communicates with passengers using P.A. system.
5. Assist passengers with questions concerning the transit system.
6. Collect fares, sell passes, and document daily collection of money and ridership. Additional data may be requested daily.
7. Document vehicle usage and complete daily inspection sheet. Report concerns regarding vehicles to the Head Mechanic.
8. Assist in cleaning vehicles in preparation of day’s service.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
1. Ability to drive vehicles in a safe manner and to use good judgment.
2. Ability to operate a wheelchair lift and secure a wheelchair properly in vehicles.
3. Ability to follow daily cash-handling procedures.
4. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
5. Ability to communicate orally.
6. Good people handling skills and willingness to assist visitors with a variety of needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Drivers work under the supervision of the Transit Director. Hours include day and evening shifts, weekdays and weekends. Drivers operate vehicles in a variety of weather conditions and extremely difficult traffic situations and must communicate and deal with large number of passengers who are unfamiliar with the transit system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A valid commercial driver’s license with endorsements for Passengers (see Training Section below.
2. Must pass a driver’s physical, background check, and pre-employment drug screen.
3. Employee will be subject to a pre-employment drug screen; and, as a condition of employment, will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to DOT regulations.
TRAINING
We offer training to candidates who do not possess the prerequisite Commercial Driver’s License, but who display all other job skills, fill out and return a completed application for employment, are interviewed by a transit representative, and then study for and pass the CDL written exam.
