SUMMARY
The City Custodian provides cleaning and basic maintenance services for City Hall and public restrooms to help keep buildings clean, safe, and ready for use.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are the main parts of the job, but other tasks may be assigned as needed. Regular attendance and being on time are required.
Performs Janitorial/Cleaning Tasks:
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors and walkways
• Clean restrooms and restock supplies such as paper towels and toilet paper
• Clean kitchens, break areas, and shared spaces (including refrigerators and microwaves)
• Dust, polish, and clean surfaces and glass
• Pick up trash inside and outside buildings
• Sweep sidewalks and keep entrances clean
• Remove snow and ice during bad weather

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervisory Controls:
The supervisor gives general instructions about what needs to be done, including priorities and deadlines. The employee is expected to complete routine tasks independently and ask for help when needed. Work may be reviewed more closely for new or unusual tasks.

None.
Complexity:
The work involves routine, straightforward tasks that are learned quickly and repeated regularly..
Guidelines:
Clear instructions and procedures are provided. The employee should follow these guidelines and ask for approval before making changes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
The employee may:
• Work in wet or humid conditions
• Use cleaning equipment such as buffers or vacuums
• Work on ladders at times
• Be exposed to dust, fumes, or cleaning chemicals
• Work outdoors in different weather conditions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND DRIVING REQUIREMTENTS:
Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
The employee must be able to:
• Stand and walk for extended periods
• Bend, kneel, crouch, and reach while working
• Use cleaning tools and equipment
• Occasionally climb ladders
Lifting requirements:
• Up to 10 pounds regularly
• Up to 25 pounds frequently
• Up to 75 pounds occasionally
The employee must have:
• Good vision for reading labels and instructions
• Depth perception for maintenance tasks
A valid Class D driver’s license and a good driving record are required and must be maintained during employment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• No education required
• Six (6) months of custodial or janitorial experience preferred
• Valid Class D driver’s license with a good driving record required
